New Fife club for the Home Counties

Fife-novice-class-green-variegated-buff-hen-M.--CFIFE CANARY FANCIERS in the Home Counties have united to replace the area’s long-established Kent & Sussex Fife FCC (K&SFFCC), which closed last December.

Discussions for a new club – Essex, Kent & Home Counties Fife FCC – began in January, following the K&SFFCC’s closure due to a lack of working members. Those involved in the formation of the new club believe it will thrive now it is targeting support from a wider Fife canary audience in the south of England, and as far as Oxford.

To avoid any confusion in the 2017 Fife canary show calendar, the new club’s show venue and open show date will stay the same as the former K&SFFCC: December 10 at Bobbing Village Hall, Sittingbourne, Kent ME9 8PL.

President Mick Holmes, from Canterbury, had been a member of the K&S FFCC for more than 25 years. He told Cage & Aviary Birds that the new club will more or less take over from where the old club left off.

Mr Holmes explained: “This needed to be a smooth transition, so officials kept the same venue and show date because it has been well known in the Fife fancy for the past 10 years.

“It was imperative that the Fife fancy didn’t lose a club in the area. Without the Essex, Kent & Home Counties Fife FCC the nearest specialised Fife clubs would be Reading, Little Paxton in Cambridgeshire and Needham Market in Suffolk.”

The club’s launch has been financed by funds from the now-defunct South East Canary Club (see News, July 5). Additional funds will come from the K&SFFCC in due course, which will boost the running of the club and future shows.

A committee has been confirmed and the next meeting has been arranged for August. Details will follow in a future issue.

Chairman Colin Hart from Tiptree, Essex, said: “None of the fanciers elected have been on a committee before, so we’re starting from fresh and are excited to have new ideas.”
