Blue Lizards to go it alone for second year

WIN 20161218_12_50_16_Pro1117A STAND-ALONE OPEN show has been confirmed for a second year for the Blue Lizard Canary Club (BLCC) – along with a new venue.

The news comes after the success of its first show in 2016, five years after the club’s formation (see News, March 3, 2016).

“There has been a slight hold-up in the announcement,” said BLCC secretary David Allen. “The hall used last year was not available, so it took a while to find a new venue, but I am pleased to say that the BLCC has now found one. It’s the perfect venue and we plan to stay put, if it continues to be to available.”

The show, on December 17, will take place at Begbroke Village Hall in Kidlington, Oxon OX5 1RL. A judge will be confirmed in due course. There will be free entry to visitors from 11am-2pm.

Mr Allen continued: “The running of last year’s show will be replicated for 2017 as feedback was very good. Once again, exhibitors who bench more than eight birds can enter the eighth and any additional birds for free.”

There will also be a sales class, which the club is looking to expand to include any type of canary for sale.

Mr Allen said: “The idea of having our own show is for blue Lizards to have their own identity. It’s also a place for members to meet with other blue Lizard breeders where they can compare birds with no other variety distractions.

“We hope our show will continue to grow.”

The club has announced dates for its series of zone shows:

■ National Exhibition: October 8, 2017

■ South Bucks Canary Breeders Association: November 11, 2017

■ North East Blue Lizard Club: December 3, 2017

■ Bournemouth & Counties CBA: February 2018 (date to be confirmed).
